How to Make Money with Rain Sounds on YouTube
So many videos are popping up like 🍄🍄🍄, telling you how you can make millions on YouTube with rain sounds. 👇

Nobody is supposed to know about this side hustle.
Nobody is doing it.
You don’t need any money to start.
You practically don’t have to do anything.
And you can make millions.

The impression these videos give you is that you can easily and without much effort make millions of dollars on YouTube — simply by copy pasting rain sounds from a free audio website and free rain video from pexels.com or some other image website.
It’s not that easy.
It’s actually not easy at all.
There are several obstacles.
Why Rain Sounds YouTube Channel is NOT a Viable Side Hustle
BIG OBSTACLES
1000 Subscribers + 4000 Watch Hours
First.
You need 1000 subscribers for your channel and 4000 watch hours.
In order to be eligible for YouTube’s Partner Program (YPP), that is when you can start putting ads on your videos, you have to have 1000 subscribers AND 4000 hours of watch time.
From YouTube:
“To qualify for YPP you need to be in good standing with YouTube, have 4,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months, and at least 1,000 subscribers.”
So one of the questions you need to consider is:
How will you get the subs and watch time?
And how long will it take?
Getting people to subscribe to your channel, and especially to a rain sounds channel, is going to be a challenge for a couple of reasons.
1. Saturated Niche
There are so many rain sound channels already.
Why would somebody subscribe to yours? What is different between your channels vs. the others?
If you create the videos as suggested in videos for easy side hustles, your videos are not going to be different. I’m not saying this to be a Debbie Downer; I’m saying it to help from wasting time and effort on something that will not work.
The videos are no different than the thousand other people’s rain sound videos. They, too, saw the videos about how to easily set this up and followed the same exact steps you did.

2. Competition + YouTube Search
How are people going to find your rain sounds channel on YouTube?
The best way for a new channel to grow, or any channel really, is to get found on YouTube search.
The rain sounds, ambient sounds, relaxation, and meditation music niches on YouTube are incredibly competitive!
Here’s a YouTube search for ‘rain sounds’
Not only are you competing against LIVE STREAMS, but also against channels that have millions of subs and hundreds of millions of views.
They have a massive advantage.
Sure, you can promote your videos and ask friends to head on over to watch and subscribe. but you’ll need money, time, and a lot of friends.
You could try gaming the system and buying subs, etc. DON’T DO THIS!!
A new channel that is not creating any original content and one that does not optimize videos for search (i.e. YouTube SEO) will NOT get found on YouTube search!
I have 14+ years of search engine optimization (SEO) under my belt with a solid track record of being able to rank on top of Google, YouTube, etc. platforms and it would be extremely hard if not impossible for me to rank any channel following this method.
If your videos are NOT getting found on YouTube search, it’d be super hard to get the required numbers (1000 subs and 4000 watch hours) you need to even think about applying to the YouTube Partner Program.
And this brings us to making 💰💰💰 (or not).
Monetization
If you were able to get the required subs and hours of watch time and that is getting accepted to the YouTube Partner Program, aka getting monetized.
The harsh reality is that your rain sounds channel probably wouldn’t get monetized. The numbers you see highlighted below of the ‘potential’ money you ‘could’ earn won’t happen. Not with this method.
YouTube will deny your request for monetization based on repetitious content and/or reused content. I talk more about the monetization challenges for meditation/relaxation channels here.
Sounds pretty bleak.
It is — if you were to follow this path.
This is NOT the way.
The good news is:
There are ways to create an ambient sound, relaxation, or similar channel, but you will have to put in a lot of work, learn YouTube SEO, or hire somebody to do it for you. You also need to create original content.
One more thing.
YouTube is NOT a FAST way to make money
It takes time to start making money on YouTube, specifically through the Partner Program.
It takes time.
Sometimes A LOT of time.
Depending on the videos you post, how frequently, etc. it can take from a few months to over a year to get monetized.
I started an experimental faceless YouTube channel a year ago, which is just short of 600 subscribers (I’ll talk more about that channel in another post).
Also, keep in mind that once you do get monetized, the first payouts are going to be small, and they may stay small for a long time. There are many variables in play here.
If you like the idea of creating videos and running a YouTube channel, that’s awesome! And yes you CAN make money doing it — just not this way.
Put your thinking cap on and see if you can come up with creative, original, different videos, and who knows, they may pop! This is exactly what happened with the first people who came up with the idea of creating rain sound videos (a few years ago).
You could be on the leading edge of something new.
